  • For enhanced traction — a non-slip outsole that works great on smooth and other surfaces
  • Lightweight and stylish running shoes — just 8.3 ounces

Cons:

  • I wish these laces were longer (a great feature for securing them with a double knot)

If you are looking for a barefoot pair of shoes that excels in comfort and versatility, Xero Shoes HFS II is my honest answer. In my testing, one of the best features is its non-slip outsole. Its new design is tread-inspired, so it performs excellently across several surfaces, providing decent traction and grip. Pros:

  • Lightweight with a generous toe box
  • Multi-directional flexibility
  • Ample vertical space for natural toe splay and increased maneuverability

Cons:

  • They are not as soft as desired
  • Potential issues with return and exchange/refund
  • Not 100% waterproof, despite the advertising

Saguaro Brave I showcases the smart use of eco-friendly materials and modern technologies — mesh for maximum breathability and a waterproof finish for weather-ready versatility. We repeated the manufacturer’s experiment and tried to immerse them in four centimeters of water for a couple of hours, but the result was a bit lacking. In terms of comfort and slip resistance efficiency, we had nothing to worry about.

Whitin Canvas Non-Slip Barefoot Shoes

Pros:

  • My toes aren’t squished
  • Walking feels natural
  • They’re light and airy
  • Pretty affordable

Cons:

  • Not great in wet or cold weather

I’ve been wearing the WHITIN Canvas Minimalist Barefoot Shoes for a while now, and they feel super light and easy on my feet. The spacious toe box gives my toes ample room, and the flat sole makes walking feel incredibly natural, almost as if I were barefoot. They’re great for everyday wear, especially in warm weather.

5. Xero Shoes Kelso

Xero Shoes Kelso Non-Slip Barefoot Shoes

Pros:

  • Hyper elasticity and a good fit on the foot
  • Good materials and cut, which has a positive effect on wear resistance
  • Thin sole, lightweight, zero drop

Cons:

  • Perhaps even too wide a toe (individually)

Xero Shoes Kelso are versatile court shoes that are great for sports. The shoes have an anti-slip sole, which will help you maintain balance in any situation. Kelso is very flexible, which allows your foot muscles to function fully. In addition to the zero drop and wide toe box, these shoes are almost unnoticeable on the foot. You feel like you are running barefoot, but your foot is still protected. In addition to sports, Kelso is great for everyday walking.

  • A wide range of sizes with EU, UK, and US measurement charts
  • The Outdoor Esc Michelin outsole for maximum grip and maneuverability without trauma on any terrain
  • An eco-friendly shopping choice thanks to the use of recycled materials

Cons:

  • It’s water-resistant only

It’s more than a great choice of tactical boots — Vivobarefoot Tracker Forest is a beautifully made pair that doesn’t compromise on its barefoot efficiency. Its suite of features minimizes foot fatigue even after prolonged wear, while the use of high-quality materials adds to the model’s life span. One of the improvements I noticed is how this design promotes a strengthened gait.

7. HOBIBEAR Loafers

Hobibear Sneakers Front View

Pros:

  • Available in a wide range of sizes
  • Four designs to choose from
  • Non-slip and durable for long-term wear
  • Affordable
  • A great barefoot feel

Cons:

  • A not-too-roomy toe box

Choosing the best fit is a hassle-free experience with HOBIBEAR barefoot loafers. I like how informative and transparent the model’s sizing charts are, including such measurements as Shoe Inner Length and Heel to Toe. However, while the toe box allows for natural toe splay, it might not be overly spacious. I prefer pairing them with thin, no-show socks rather than wearing them sockless.

8. Zaqq Hiqe Low Vegan Camel Red Waterproof

Zaqq Hiqe Non-Slip Barefoot Shoes

Pros:

  • Windproof, breathable, and waterproof thanks to the brand’s special membrane material
  • Zero-drop
  • Breathable

Cons:

  • Not the most lightweight model in the category
  • Although they are suggested for colder weather conditions, we didn’t find them extremely warm

As you can see from the model’s name, it features a lot of hints about what functions to expect from this pair of shoes. If the dress code in your working environment is not so strict, it will be an excellent solution. Hiqe Low Vegan Camel Red Waterproof is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and features the classic benefits of Zaqq — hand-sewn silhouettes that are abrasion-resistant, flexible, and roomy in the toe area.

9. BeLenka Barebarics UrbanEdge

Barebarics UrbanEdge Outsole

Pros:

  • Great quality and attention to detail
  • A stylish design
  • Boosted foot safety thanks to the Barebarics PowerGrip sole
  • Waterproof

Cons:

  • Their flexibility isn’t what we typically expect from barefoot shoes from such famous brands

They are well-adapted to busy daily life and support users with high-quality and foot-shaped silhouettes. We wouldn’t mind extra thermal insulation for the Barebarics UrbanEdge design, but other performance parameters are at their peaks. Waterproof, lightweight, breathable, and zero-drop shoes will protect your feet, no matter what terrain and weather conditions you are to face.

10. Ballop Corso

BALLOP Corso Shoes

Pros:

  • Slip-resistant, allowing for enhanced traction on multiple terrains
  • With a wide toe box
  • Zero-drop
  • Natural thermal isolation, due to its material composition — wool and polyester

Cons:

  • They aren’t winter boots for any occasion — ankle-cut & non-waterproof, may let some dirt and snow slip in

If you support your foot health, Ballop Corso will deliver a distinctive barefoot feeling. Its design is pretty neutral, but you shouldn’t just judge this book by its cover. Its slip-resistant properties are impressive, letting me move confidently on dry, muddy, wet, and icy surfaces without slipping hazards. Given its lining and wool as the primary material, it molds to suit your foot shape perfectly.

11. HOBIBEAR Minimalist Sneakers

HOBIBEAR Minimalist Sneakers

Pros:

  • A high-quality, durable, and eco-friendly upper
  • Breathable and flexible
  • Waterproof
  • A roomy toe box for a natural toe splay
  • A stylish silhouette for everyday wear

Cons:

  • The outsole is non-slip but pretty squeaky

Let me be frank with you — don’t hesitate to order a ½ size larger. While these are quite spacious, the glove-like fit may not be the most comfortable option for those suffering from bunions, for instance. The material itself is flexible and easy to clean — Vegan PU for eco-conscious and sustainable shopping practices. The outsole isn’t porous, which has been one of my favorite features. It would be a great choice for affordable work shoes — no odor buildup. The waterproof membrane greatly increases the environments this pair is best suited for.

12. Splay 101 Blazer

Splay 101 Blazer

Pros:

  • Casual and classic athletic shoes for men and women
  • Durable and sturdy
  • Foot-friendly silhouette with a zero-drop and flexible design
  • High-quality materials

Cons:

  • Possible issues with choosing the right fit because of the unisex design

On the other hand, it’s crucial to understand how the Splay 101 Blazer fits: these may run a little small, so a larger size is usually not a bad idea. This affordable barefoot option features vintage-design elements, making it an undeniably good choice to contribute to anyone’s wardrobe.

13. Saguaro Active IV

Saguaro Active IV

Pros:

  • A breathable design for comfort without odor buildup
  • A lightweight construction
  • Added stability and all-conditions traction, due to its slip-resistant sole
  • A budget-friendly price

Cons:

  • Not suitable for extreme weather conditions
  • Its sole is a bit thicker in comparison with some other barefoot shoes

Its slip resistance is one of the things this design excels in, especially in comparison with other models in the same price segment. During extended wear, I didn’t notice any issues with how it envelops and accommodates my feet. I ordered the M 11-11.5 US size, and the fit was perfect right out of the box.

14. Saguaro Wish I

Saguaro Wish Ⅰ

Pros:

  • This provides good traction and grip
  • A lace-up closure for a custom fit (they stay in place, what’s more important)
  • A 100% natural rubber outsole with slip-resistant properties

Cons:

  • Not waterproof (but quick-drying, on the other hand)
  • They may run off your standard size

Although these shoes aren’t advertised as slip-resistant, their tread pattern is a nice touch. It allows for excellent grip and traction, making them a great pair of minimalist sneakers for various surfaces. While they don’t have any premium-class features for upgraded use across rigged terrains, they are almost flawless for urban use. Its slip-on design may be inconvenient at times, and choosing the right fit may be a hassle.

15. WHITIN Minimalist Sneakers

WHITIN Minimalist Sneakers

Pros:

  • A sleek styling for everyday wear
  • A budget-friendly price
  • Thin and flexible soles with a non-slip rubber outsole
  • A foot-shaped silhouette for elevated comfort

Cons:

  • A lace-up design without slip-on elements

For the price, these minimalist sneakers do better than some other upmarket alternatives. I do love how durable they are. Although cleaning white shoes may be a hassle (which is to be expected), these are perfectly fine after several months of gym sessions and daily errands. If you want to figure out why barefoot sneakers get so much hype, this solution from WHITIN will help you uncover their genuine value.

16. Xero Shoes Mesa Trail

Xero Shoes Mesa Trail WP

Pros:

  • The ease of finding the right fit (from 6.5 US to 15 US), with a free exchange program
  • A breathable mesh upper
  • Multi-seasonal lining with extra moisture-wicking efficiency
  • Cost-effective for men and women

Cons:

  • Although the brand suggests your natural size, I would go a half size up

While they are not extremely cheap in comparison with other models on the list, Xero Shoes Mesa Trail WP shoes pay off. Their affordability doesn’t mean any functionality-related compromise from the brand. On the contrary, I am in love with how high-quality these waterproof sneakers for trail running are. They support me in full motion, largely thanks to a zero-drop, lightweight, and wide-toe-boxed design.

17. Xero Shoes Xcursion Fusion

Xero Shoes Xcursion Fusion

Pros:

  • Lightweight shoes — 13.7 ounces
  • Year-round efficiency for casual wear and hiking
  • Equipped with a loop at the back of the shoe for slip-on efficiency
  • A thin and slip-resistant outsole for elevated traction

Cons:

  • You will need to order a half size-up to ensure their right fit

At first, I was afraid Xero Shoes Xcursion Fusion might be too narrow for my feet — they look rather slim in photos. Luckily, they did fit excellently. Although I don’t think that these are a perfect match to people with extra-wide feet, its toe box is done with a natural toe splay and foot alignment in mind.

How We Picked and Tested

We wore these shoes for several weeks to half a year. In addition to general evaluation criteria such as flexibility and quality of materials, we paid special attention to the slip resistance of the shoes. A series of tests were conducted to determine the most suitable shoes for working in difficult conditions and walking in bad weather.

You can see how we conducted the test in the video. Soapy liquid was spilled on the floor to simulate a slippery surface. Next, using a precision industrial scale, we measured the force that must be applied to move a person from a place in a specific pair of shoes. We measured the peak force in kilograms, and precisely at the moment when the shoe began to slide on the surface. The greater the force, the better the quality of shoe adhesion to the surface.

The Xero Shoes HFS II are the best of their kind because they were not designed as a city shoe but as a specialized shoe for physical activity and extreme surfaces. This pair showed the best results in the grip tests.

In second place is Brave I from Saguaro. These shoes demonstrated excellent anti-slip properties. In addition, we want to note that these lightweight boots are completely waterproof, which is rare.

Third place goes to Saguaro Vitality III. In addition to the anti-slip properties, it should be noted that these shoes are made to perfectly fit the shape of the foot, and also have one of the most affordable prices on the market.
